The theme at this year’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute exhibition is Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons. Rei, the founder of Comme des Garçons, is the second living designer (after Yves Saint Laurent in 1983) to be honoured by the MET.
She is often described as one of the ‘most influential designers’ of our time and is known to push the boundaries of fashion design, mainly designing pieces that may not be universally appealing but instead challenge the idea of what is considered beautiful; in sort of a play between fashion and art.
Keeping the Comme des Garçons aesthetic in mind, we were expecting to see some really exciting, trail blazing looks on the red carpet and while a few of our favourite celebs disappointed by playing it safe; others channeled the Comme des Garçons in perfect style!
