A new season in fashion counts as a new beginning – for your sartorial choices and for you.

A re-invention of sorts; last season you may have been the athleisure maven rocking white sneakers and sweatpants like they were NBD. But now with the new season around, maybe you’re less ‘active wear everywhere’ and more ‘festivals and free living’ (it is Coachella month after all).

Our point being, the new season is great because you get to be a new you and let’s be honest, who wants to remain the same every day, let alone every season?

With the new season also comes a new set of trends and the recent Pakistan Sunsilk Fashion Week offered a bunch of them. One such trend which seemed to be literally everywhere was the coat, both mid length and floor skimming, (very Kendall/Gigi streetwear inspired but we’ll take it!).

Though this piece has been donned by fashionistas for a while now, designers showcased their own versions in a number of ways, whether it be wedding-wear inspired or something more street.

Sana Safinaz and Sania Maskatiya’s luxe floral take on the coats are perfect spring/summer options (Safinaz Muneer styled the coat the same way as it was presented on the runway at the recent Lux Style Awards and she looked absolutely stunning), while Khaadi Khaas and Ali Xeeshan took a more desi route.

Fashion savvy men can also experiment with this trend, as Omar Farooq from Republic showcased at fashion week, through a monochromatic number which was trendy yet very wearable.

One styling tip to take away from this is to wear a coat that isn’t too matchy-matchy with whatever you plan on wearing as a base, be it through print, embroidery or even a contrasting colour. Additionally, when investing in such a coat, be sure to opt for one in a light and airy fabric because as much as fashion is a way of life for most of us, we still live in Pakistan and it seems like temperatures will not be forgiving this year!
